Students and faculty with the Buckingham County Primary and Elementary schools enjoyed a special breakfast and program in honor of Veterans Day on Thursday.
According to Division Superintendent Dr. Cecil Snead, the event was held in the Carter G. Woodson Complex.
Staff and students provided breakfast for area veterans, Snead said, and following the breakfast attended a presentation at the gymnasium.
“Upon completion of the breakfast, the veterans were escorted to the gym where students honored each branch of service and recognized each veteran who served,” Snead said in an email. “In addition, the JROTC Color Guard was present to open and close the ceremony. Students sang ‘God Bless America’ and concluded with ‘God Bless the USA’ in unison.”
He said the students and staff received positive feedback from the veterans in the area.
Buckingham County Primary School Principal Angela Patterson-Jones said the first- and second- grade students of the primary school recited a poem and song while the kindergarteners waved flags as the veterans entered the gym.
“The students understand the importance of showing respect and honor to the men and women who served their country,” Patterson-Jones said.
