FARMVILLE — Every year the Farmville Police Department participates in Operation Blue Christmas in conjunction with the Department of Social Services (DSS). DSS chooses 10 children that participate in the event. These 10 children are taken by officers to shop for Christmas gifts and to have lunch with the officers. Fundraising allows the officers to pay for the toys for the children. Pizza Hut has had one night in which they donated a portion of their sales to Operation Blue Christmas. Buffalo Wild Wings also held a night in which a portion of their sales was donated to the program. This is the seventh year of the program in Farmville.
“Operation Blue Christmas is a great opportunity for officers to give back to the community, connect with children who are in need, and spread the spirit of giving. We enjoy this event every year and are thankful to those who donate and participate in fundraising that help us to make this possible,” Farmville Police Chief A.Q. “Andy” Ellington said.
