FFA Seniors receive awards

The Virginia State Fair was the site of several FFA competitions held this fall. The Buckingham Senior Chapter participated in several contests during the duration of the fair. According to a press release, Trevor Agee placed third in the Lawn Tractor Operator’s contest. Agee had to take a written exam on small engine maintenance, tool identification and drive an obstacle course.

Amanda Bryan placed fifth in the Agriscience Demonstration contest with her demonstration of “How to Castrate a Bull.” The Junior Forester’s Team placed 27th out of 57 teams. Team members included Trevor Agee, Layne Branch, Branson Layne and Chase Moss. Team members had to take a written exam about the Virginia’s forestry industry, measure; trees, logs and boards, and identify tools used in the forestry industry.

The Forestry Field Day contest is made up of several events. Hunter Townsend and Chase Moss placed seventh on the crosscut saw, Layne Branch and Hunter Tyson placed sixth, Grant Martin placed ninth cutting with the bow saw, Jakob Costello placed 13th in the log toss event, and Nathan Shippee placed seventh in the water accuracy event. Overall the team placed seventh out of 24 teams.
