On Saturday, Oct. 21, the Friends of the Appomattox River (FAR) conducted a successful Fall Waterways Cleanup as part of the International Coastal Cleanup and Clean Virginia Waterways efforts. Eighteen FAR members and eight community volunteers collected approximately 691 pounds of trash including tires, construction materials, furniture, and a bicycle covering 1.5 miles of shore and water distance. The areas cleaned included portions of the Appomattox River, Buffalo Creek, Gross Creek, Briery Creek Reservoir, Sandy River Reservoir and Wilckâs Lake. The Town of Farmville provided trash receptacles and disposal.
