Parents, community members, students and staff celebrated International Day of Peace on Sept. 21 by planting a Peace Pole on campus. Students participating in activities, conversations and academic tasks related to understanding Peace and “What Peace means to you?” According to a press release, participants in the ceremony created peace flags that now adorn the new Peace Pole and signed Peace Pledges. Students studied the Peace Pledge and voted to accept this pledge as a part of their school code of behavior and general mission. The pledge was created by Kids for Global Peace and includes promises to “respect myself and others in my words and actions… to seek out opportunities to build peace…in our school and community… reject bullying, discrimination and cultural insensitivity…consider others and our environment when making daily choices.”

According to a press release, the International Day of Peace is observed around the world each year on Sept. 21. Established in 1981 by unanimous United Nations resolution, the Peace Day provides a globally shared date for all humanity to commit to Peace above all differences and to contribute to building a Culture of Peace.

The release cited Full Circle will be participating in the Great Kindness Challenge Jan. 22-26. They have also elected to join the Kids for Peace organization.
