Auten speaks at 4-H club meeting

The Buckingham 4-H Livestock Club held its first meeting of the year on Tuesday, Oct. 17 at the B.A.R.N. facility in Buckingham. Approximately 40 people were in attendance. Special guest speaker was Dr. Bryan Auten, Veterinarian at Slate River Vet Clinic, who talked to club members and enthusiasts about livestock health, nutrition, and safety. 

Experience the joy of camp during a fun weekend of activities, recreation and special programs during the “Going Green Christmas Camp” at Holiday Lake 4-H center. This camp is held Dec. 2-3, for youth ages 5-13. Trained teen and adult leaders are also encouraged to attend. Call the Extension Office at (434) 969-4261 to find out more about volunteering. Cedar Baptist Church at 3932 Bell Road will be hosting Trunk or Treat from 6-8 p.m. on Oct. 31.  Come out and enjoy Halloween treats.

Join Central Virginia Community Health Center on Friday at 10 a.m. for Toddlers on the Move. Tai Chi is scheduled for Tuesday at 10 a.m. The Health Center is located on U.S. Route 15 in Arvonia. Buckingham Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring Trick or Treat on old main street on Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. Main Street in Dillwyn will be closed to vehicle traffic at that time from Tri-County Real Estate to Faye’s Beauty Shop for safety of the children. Those 12 and under are invited to Trick or Treat. 

The Holiday Lake 4-H Educational Center is hosting a Banjo and Mandolin Building Workshop from March 25-30, 2018. Your choice of either banjo or mandolin includes: banjo solid mahogany neck with ebony fingerboard, peg head, overlay and heel cap, sealed tuning machines including fifth string tuner, mother of pearl position markers for fingerboard, two-way adjustable truss rod, 11” three-ply maple pot rolled brass tone ring, two coordinator rods, 24 hook tension hoop, no-knot tail piece, and 11” Fiberskyn head; or mandolin, octave or standard, book matched redwood top, black walnut sides and back, slotted ebony fingerboard 13 7/8” and veneer peg head overlay, spalted maple rosette, curly maple binding and b/w/b wood purfling.
