4-H gem workshop set

Have fun after school with the 4-H Stem Gem workshop, to be held at Buckingham Primary School. This program is for grades K-2, is free, and focuses on hands-on science. This will be held on Thursdays, Oct. 19, 26, Nov. 9, 16, and 30 from 3:15-4:45 p.m. with pick up in the cafeteria.

Maysville Baptist Church will have its Fall Festival on Oct. 7 at 5 p.m. The festival will include a free concert by Denise Pass, of Seeing Deep. Cider, fresh popcorn, treat bags, dinner, bonfire, hay rides, corn hole, hot chocolate and more. Don’t forget your lawn chairs. Attend a Forestry Bus Tour on Oct. 10 sponsored by the Virginia Cooperative Extension. This tour will provide scholarships for science teachers and a free Project Learning Tree Educators kit. Check in is between 8-8:30 a.m. that day. Tour concludes by 5 p.m. There will be a hot catered lunch provided by Helping Hands. TRIAD of Buckingham is hosting an Open House on Oct. 12 at 1:30 p.m. at the VFW Hall near the Buckingham Court House area. Refreshments will be served and the public is invited to attend. TRIAD is a coalition between law enforcement, senior citizens and the community. The goal is aimed at reducing fear of crime and victimization among seniors by increasing awareness of scams and frauds targeting them, strengthening communication between the law enforcement and senior communities and educating seniors on local and state resources that are available in their community. Straight Street of Buckingham is hosting a Unity with the Community event Oct. 7 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., 1174 South Constitution Highway in Dillwyn. This event includes a parade, snow cones, games, yard sales and various vendors. Please arrive by 10:45 a.m. at the Buckingham Elementary/Primary School parking lot if you or your group plans to participate in the Unity with the Community Banner Walk. Have you ever wanted to breed your own cows or at least learn the anatomy and physiology behind it? If so, the BARN Facility at Buckingham Court House is offering an Artificial Insemination (AI) Training Course on Oct. 16 and 17 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Cost is $65/person, which includes lunch. Topics covered will be anatomy, physiology, heat detection and timing, tank care and semen handling, AI synchronization and AI techniques. There will be hands-on practice with semen handling and breeding cows. Registration deadline is Oct. 2 with a 15-person maximum so reserve your space now.
