The Church and Community Events calendar is published each Friday. Items must be submitted by 10 a.m. Monday for that Friday’s calendar. Events should be emailed to CommunityCalendar@FarmvilleHerald.com.

CONCERT, 7 p.m. featuring Down East Boys at Sandy Creek Baptist Church.

AUGUST 5

PAMPLIN DEPOT BARN DANCE, 6-8 p.m. first monthly community social, music and dance. As a special treat Chef Timothy from Centra Code Fresh is cooking up an exceptional meal. Only $5 for a meal. Barbecue pork on a brioche bun, macaroni and cheese, cole slaw, banana pudding and sweet tea. Admission is free.

AUGUST 6

SERVICES, 11 a.m. at New Redeemed Tabernacle with Bishop/Pastor Williams at the Apex Community Center, 275 George Washington Highway, Charlotte Court House every first and third Sunday.

HOMECOMING, 10 a.m. at Cedar Baptist Church, 3932 Bell Road, Dillwyn, beginning with Sunday school at 10 a.m., worship service at 11 a.m. with lunch served immediately following worship service. There will be a song service featuring the Oak Hill Quartet at 1:30 p.m. The Rev. Jerry Gray from Iva, South Carolina will be conducting the revival services Monday through Friday. The services will begin each night at 7 p.m. with special music, including Second Time Around on Monday; Smokey Wilson on Tuesday; Eilidh Camacho on Wednesday; Barry Snoddy on Thursday; and Chris Lewis on Friday.

FAMILY AND FRIENDS DAY, 11 a.m. at Mercy Seat Baptist Church. The theme for the service is “To God Be the Glory.” The pastor, the Rev. Walter M. Fells and members extend an invitation to the public.

HOMECOMING, 11 a.m. at Mt Zion Baptist Church of New Canton. Pastor Woody Moore will be preaching the morning worship service. Sunday School begins at 9:45 a.m. with morning worship at 11 a.m. Following morning worship lunch will be served.

TIME CHANGE, for Calvary Baptist Church, Burkeville with morning worship service at 9:30-10:30 a.m. Aug. 6, 20 and 27.

HOMECOMING/REVIVAL, at First Baptist Church, Farmville. Homecoming service is Sunday at 11 a.m with the Rev. James P. Ashton preaching the word. Revival begins nightly on Wednesday through Friday. Prayer and worship starts at 7 p.m. with service at 7:30 p.m. There will be guest pastors each night.

HOMECOMING SERVICE, Zion Baptist Church, Dillwyn. Guest preacher will be the Rev. Larry Smith and the Rocky Mountain Choir. Revival will be Tuesday-Friday with Evangelist Dr. Ray MacKenzie for the week.

AUGUST 6-9

HOMECOMING AND REVIVAL, 11 a.m. at First Liberty Baptist Church. The Rev. Tanya Richardson will preach the service. A fellowship meal immediately following service. Revival services will be held Monday through Wednesday. Guest revivalist is Elder Jason Lewis, associate pastor of the Temple of Deliverance, HCOGIC, Mineral. Prayer and praise services will begin nightly at 7:30 p.m. immediately followed by evening worship at 8 p.m. Area choirs and ushers will be serving nightly. All are invited to attend.

HOMECOMING/SUMMER REVIVAL, at Petersville Baptist Church, starting at 11 a.m. on Sunday with worship by Pastor Ollie Bolden and the PBC Sanctuary Choir. Lunch will follow in the Nehemiah House. Monday through Wednesday, services will begin nightly at 7:30 p.m. with different guest pastor each night.

AUGUST 6-10

4-H SHOOTING EDUCATION CAMP, at Holiday Lake 4-H Educational Center, located at 1267 4-H Camp Road, Appomattox. The camp is open to boys and girls ages 12-16 with interest and/or experience with firearms. Participants will receive four days of instruction related to their chosen discipline with courses in shooting safety, shooting fundamentals and theory, marksmanship instruction and each will have the opportunity to participate in one or more competitive shoots. All Instructors are certified through 4-H, VDGIF, NRA, NAA and other national organizations. Registration deadline is July 14. AUGUST 7

MONTHLY MEETING, 6:30 p.m. of the Curdsville Community Center. Everyone is welcome. Bring your favorite covered dish or dessert. The community center is located at 122 School Road just off of U.S. Route 15. The speaker will be Amy White, manager of the Dillwyn library.

AUGUST 7-10

REVIVAL, 7 p.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in New Canton with the Rev. Matt Wilkins, an evangelist who travels extensively across America in revivals, conferences and events, speaking each night. Music will be featured each evening. Monday night will feature Smokey Wilson, Tuesday will be the Oak Hill Mennonite Boys led by Mike Yoder and Wednesday will be Dillwyn First Baptist Church Choir under the direction of Krystie Moxley and Cody Moss at the piano. All are welcome to be a part of this special time.

AUGUST 9

SPECIAL MEETING, 10:30 a.m. of The Appreciation Quilts volunteers to be held at the American Legion Post 8 stew shed, 1710 Jeffress Boulevard in South Boston to trim and prepare bindings for three or four nearly finished projects. The next Appreciation Quilts Workshop regular meeting will be held on Aug. 12 from 10 a.m. until approximately 3 p.m.

AUGUST 10

MEETING, 7 p.m. of the HÜMÜH Buddhist study group at the Barbara Rose Johns Farmville-Prince Edward Community Library, 1303 W. Third St., Farmville. Everyone is welcome to attend. For more information, call (800) 336-6015.

AUGUST 12

SUMMER NIGHT STARLIGHT, 8-9:30 p.m. with the Crewe Astronomy Club. If you have your own telescope, bring it along. In addition, the facilitator of this event, Kim Kenny will provide a wonderful PowerPoint presentation on how you, too, can become a backyard astronomer studying the celestial sky. This program is free to the public and very family-friendly.

AUGUST 13

HOMECOMING/FAMILY AND FRIEND’S DAY, 11 a.m. at Union RZUA Church, Meredithville. Guest preacher will be the Rev. Marvin Harris and New Light Baptist Church Family, of Skipwith. Dinner will be served and the public is welcome to attend.

HOMECOMING/REVIVAL SERVICE, at Sulphur Spring Baptist Church, Prospect. Sunday school at 9:30 a.m. and morning worship at 11 a.m. The Rev. Timothy Walker will deliver the message. Dinner will be served. There will be no afternoon service. Revival will be Monday through Friday beginning at 7 p.m. nightly. Guest revivalist will be the Rev. Glen Faulkner. Various choirs will render the music. All are welcome.

HOMECOMING, 11 a.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church, 6643 Lockett Road, Rice with morning worship by Pastor Jimmy R. Coleman. Lunch will be served. Homecoming service will begin at 3 p.m. with guest Pastor Burch Surgeon and the Union Branch Baptist Church, Amelia and his choir, ushers, deacons and congregation.

HOMECOMING/REVIVAL, Peaks Baptist Church, 1948 Peaks Road, Prospect. Homecoming is Sunday at 11:30 a.m. with guest preacher the Rev. Bennett Jr. Johnson III of Solid Rock Baptist Church, Patterson, New Jersey. A meal will be served after the service. Revival will begin Aug. 14-18 with prayer and praise at 7:30 p.m. and the preached word at 8 p.m. There will be guest revivalists each night. All are welcome.

AUGUST 16

REVIVAL, 7:30 p.m. nightly at Macedonia Baptist Church, 6643 Lockett Road, Rice. There will be different preachers and choirs each night. We look forward to you worshiping with us during this joyous time.

AUGUST 20

HOMECOMING AND REVIVAL SERVICES, Midway Baptist Church, 837 Guinea Road, Farmville. Pastor Irma T. Watson will deliver a message from the Lord during the 11 a.m. worship service. There will be no afternoon service. Revival services will be held on Aug. 21-25 with prayer and praise services beginning nightly at 7:30 p.m. followed by worship service at 8 p.m. There will be different ministers for the week, along with their choir and ushers.

ANNUAL REVIVAL/HOMECOMING, at Zion Hill Baptist Church with homecoming on Sunday and revival services Aug. 21-25. The Rev. Leon Jackson, pastor will deliver the morning message at 11 a.m. followed by lunch. The Rev. Dr. Gary Harmon, of Level Run Baptist Church in Hurt, will be returning as the guest preacher for the week with different choirs rendering the music each night. Revival services will begin each night starting at 7 p.m. with prayer and praise and worship service at 7:30 p.m.

AUGUST 20-25

REVIVAL/HOMECOMING, at St. Andrews Baptist Church, Cullen. Homecoming will be Aug. 20 at 11 a.m. The Rev. Dr. Maurice Finney will preach the morning service. There will be no afternoon service. Evangelist for the week will be the Rev. Jerry Streat, pastor of Popular Lawn Baptist Church, Blackstone. There will be different choirs each night. Come and be blessed.

SEPTEMBER 10

ANNUAL DAY, 3 p.m. of the Zion Hill Baptist Church Women’s Ministry. Evangelist Romaine Holcomb, of Reed Rock Baptist Church, will be the speaker and a quest choir will render the music. Light refreshments will be served after the service.
