The director of the Barbara Rose Johns Farmville-Prince Edward Community Library is currently accepting applications for a new branch manager for the library.
The branch manager position is advertised on the Central Virginia Regional Library’s (CVRL) website.
Job responsibilities, according to the application, include working the service desk; managing, hiring, training and evaluating library staff; handling and maintaining book collection; heading programs for the library and interacting with members of the community.
Director Rick Ewing emphasized the manager’s role in spreading awareness about the library’s services and programs.
He said a four-year college degree is minimum criteria for the position, though he said he would prefer to have someone with a Master of Library Science degree and accreditation with the American Library Association, or someone with previous managerial experience either at a library or in another capacity.
Ewing said that the previous branch manager, Ruth Stubbs, had left the system March 24 to take a position in a library near Richmond.
The application process will close Aug. 30.
Ewing, the former Buckingham Public Library branch manager, became director following the retirement of Peggy Epperson, who spent more than 25 years working as a director for the library system.
