The Prince Edward-Farmville Youth Association (PEFYA) Ponytails All-Stars, representing Virginia at the World Series, returned to form in a big way Sunday morning in Sumter, South Carolina.
After suffering their first loss of the summer Saturday to open their play in the 2017 Dixie Softball Ponytails X-Play World Series, the PEFYA Ponytails rebounded with a 15-0 rout of Texas on Sunday in four innings.
They are set to play again Sunday, facing off against Tennessee, with the first pitch scheduled for 8 p.m.
The contrast between Virginia’s performance in a 16-8 loss against South Carolina on Saturday and Virginia’s performance in a big win against Texas on Sunday was substantial.
“Yesterday, I don’t know who they were,” Virginia Manager Larry Conwell said of his PEFYA Ponytails All-Stars. “Today, this was the team that we’ve been coaching and (that they’ve been) playing as. I just hope it carries over tonight.”
He said Danner Allen pitched well, contributing three innings in the circle and allowing only one hit, and Kyla Edmonds finished strong, throwing in the fourth to close out the mercy rule-shortened game while also allowing only one hit.
On offense, Da’Nasia Dupuy and Alani Walton each went 3-for-3.
“We all hit the ball,” Conwell said. “We just all made good defensive plays. It was a great team effort.”
Virginia scored eight of its 15 runs in the fourth inning.
The PEFYA Ponytails All-Star team now has a record of 9-1 this summer.
