‘Here is what I observed’

We all read the article about Buckingham County Youth League (BCYL) because it was shared over and over (“Allegations discussed against youth league,” June 28).
I have been at Gene Dixon Ballpark for the past five nights watching the Majors tournament. I do not have a child playing, I do not have a husband coaching and I am not on the board. I simply like to support Buckingham athletics, and I love baseball.
I read the article and heard many versions of what was going on by different people. While I admit that I know absolutely nothing about what is going on down there, here is what I observed: packed stands and excited parents and family members, nervous coaches and players, volunteers taking up gate money, volunteers working the concession stand, volunteers getting the fields ready, volunteers selling 50/50 tickets, kids eating snow cones, umpires in 100-plus degree heat indexes, children running around playing in the dirt and having the best time.
I never saw unsportsmanlike conduct by players or coaches. I did not see or smell alcohol. I did not hear foul language.
This is just what I saw, and what I saw was a very small group of people pull together to host a very big tournament.
