The Virginia Credit Union has awarded a $1,000 scholarship to graduates Morgan DeLong-Maxey, of Buckingham High School, and Lauren Anema, of Prince Edward High School.
According to a press release, DeLong-Maxey, the valedictorian of Buckingham County High School, is planning to attend the University of Virginia in the fall and study biology. Prince Edward graduate Lauren Anema is planning to attend Southside Virginia Community College to study education.
“The Success Scholarships are given on the basis of academic achievement, community service and extracurricular activities, an essay, and the hours a student devotes to work to help with the cost of his or her education,” officials said in the release.
The release cited that Virginia Credit Union is a member-owned financial cooperative with more than 254,000 members.
“Virginia Credit Union provides a variety of affordable consumer services and free financial education resources,” officials said in the release. “Anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in the counties of Buckingham, Cumberland, Nottoway, Prince Edward or the Town of Farmville, is eligible to join the credit union.”
