COPPC services open to the community

Christian Outreach Program and Pregnancy Center (COPPC) — a non-denominational, Christian ministry located in Buckingham County — offers pre-natal counseling, assistance at Christmas for needy families, help for the elderly and working families that fall short of government assistance, emergency help and services to those who have experienced fire and natural disasters, help to the abused and food for the hungry.
The organization is supported by monetary donations, all of which are used to support these services, and an on-site thrift store located on U.S. Route 15, seven miles north of Dillwyn. Check out the weekly sales on Facebook.
New summer store hours are Tuesday-Wednesday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.; Thursday-Friday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. The organization is closed on Sunday and Monday.
Call (434) 983-8643 or stop by and see some great deals while helping the community. Items for sale include clothes, shoes, furniture, appliances, toys, dishes, books, domestics, kitchen sinks and more. COPPC is under new management as of January, but offering the same mission and services.
Karate, anyone? Come out and try this great karate program where you can learn discipline and self-defense, build confidence and character and become motivated. This year-round program taught by James Walker is held every Wednesday from 3:30-5:30 p.m. at the Buckingham Agricultural Building. Programs are for ages 4 to adult and cost is $38 per month.
Youth football, baseball and softball signups continue through June at Gene Dixon Ballpark. For dates and times, email buckinghamcountyyouthleague@gmail.com. This is for ages 5-13. Cost for football is $55, first child, and $50, second child of same family. Cost for baseball and softball is $40.
Summer Arts Camp is being offered from July 10-14 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. for ages 7-14. This camp will be held at the Buckingham Arts Center and will feature dancing, pottery, sculpture, polymer clay, enameling, watercolors and more. Team leader positions available. It’s not too late to sign up for girls cheerleading for football. Sign-ups will be through the rest of June at Gene Dixon ballpark. For ages 6-12, cost is $55 for the first child, and $50 for a second child of the same family.
Co-ed volleyball will begin this fall. Anyone interested in playing open gym co-ed volleyball, ages 16 and up, please contact (434) 969-4242.
If you have a school-aged student/child in need of breakfast and lunch this summer, simply text “FOOD” to 877877 and receive a message back with a location closest to where they can get free summer meals. This is a nationwide program for all the children who are struggling to get enough food. Even if you aren’t in need, someone else’s children are. No child deserves to go hungry.
