William R. ‘Bill’ Phillips

William R. “Bill” Phillips went home to be with Jesus May 19, 2017. Bill was happily married to the love of his life, Helen for 48 years.

Bill was born in Washington, DC April 2, 1941. He was the son of James and Ethel Phillips.

He is survived by his wife, Helen; son, Michael (Lisa); daughter, Cindy (Graham); grandchildren, Amanda, Courtney, William and Ryan Buck; brothers, Gene (Teresa) and Donald (Janet). He is also survived by many other loving family members.

He was predeceased by his parents, James and Ethel Phillips, and son Stephen.

Bill was a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church. Before his illness, Bill loved to sing and play his various instruments. He loved using his talents to lead praise and worship groups. He was in several gospel and barbershop quartets over the years.

Bill began his successful career as an Operating Engineer and then went on to be a Facilities Manager with an RPA designation. He was highly respected by his co-workers.

Bill will be remembered for his enduring faith in Jesus, his love and devotion to his family and his beautiful and gentle smile! The lives touched by Bill are many!

Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, May 23 at the Dunkum Funeral Home. The Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday, May 24 at 1 p.m. at Bethlehem Baptist Church in Dillwyn, with interment in the church cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
