Students ready for Boys and Girls State

Students at Buckingham County High School were recently tapped to attend Virginia Boys and Girls State.
Daniel Brickhill and Ty’leik Chambers will represent the county at Virginia Boys State. Chambers is sponsored by the American Legion Post #134 and Brickhill by the Buckingham County Ruritan Club.
Sarah Whittington, Kayla Sage and Destiny Sutton will represent the county at Girls State of Virginia.
Both Sage and Whittington are sponsored by Buckingham County Lions Club, Buckingham County Woman’s Club along with Buckingham County High School.
Sutton is sponsored by the Cumberland American Legion Women’s Auxilary. The 75th Boys State conference will be held from June 18-24 at Radford University. Girls State’s 71st conference will also be held June 18-24 at Longwood University.
Girls and Boys State is a leadership program developed by the American Legion Auxiliary that teaches high school students civic responsibilities by allowing them to operate an invented government for that week.
