Senior Elizabeth McCarthy was recently named the Big South Pitcher of the Week after achieving two wins last week, including her third career no-hitter. Across both games, she produced a 0.00 earned run average and 13 strikeouts. This is the 10th time the Dunnsville product has earned this Big South honor, the most among any active pitchers in the conference. In aiding a series sweep against visiting Gardner-Webb University, McCarthy started two games, gave up just three hits total and did not allow a base runner to advance past second base. She limited the Runnin’ Bulldogs to a .094 batting average and just three base hits across 10 scoreless innings. The no-hitter is the southpaw’s first since a April 1, 2015 victory at Liberty University during her sophomore season, and it was her second no-hitter thrown at Lancer Field, as she threw one there as a freshman.
