Elementary students perform Shakespeare

Under the direction of Ciara Hoyt, second-grade teacher at Cumberland Elementary School (CES), students performed an adapted version of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream recently. According to a press release, performances were held on March 23 and 24, in the CES gym/auditorium.
The play, which incorporates love triangles, magical spells and fairies, ended in a triple wedding, much to the delight of the audience.
Cast members included Puck, Peyton Turner; Duke Theseus of Athens, Jayden Eppes; Egeus (Hermia’s father), Shai-Qir Austin; Lysander, Allahjah Harris; Demetrius, Logan Elliott; Philostrate, Ja’Mir Hubbard; Hermia, Kaydence Colding; Hippolyta, Ka’Mira Richardson; narrator, James Ross; Helena, Alana Johnson; Quince, Keona Harris; Bottom, Hunter Hodges; Snout, Sean Childress; Oberon (Fairy King), Javion Tiller; Titania (Fairy Queen), Takiyah Hampton; fairy, Josie Payne; Peaseblossom, Kamira Holman; Cobweb, Emmitt Green; Mote, Selena Duran and Mustardseed, Lacy Carrier.
Other staff members who assisted included Emily Overstreet (set design and construction), Gail Doss (costume design and construction), Gary Archer (sound design) and Georgina Handy and Tonya Wright (lighting technicians). “Hoyt also gave special thanks to the many parents who provided support and materials,” officials said in the release.Night.
