According to experts, soil health provides the foundation for your successful garden and landscape. Join the Heart of Virginia Master Gardeners for the April Lunch and Learn program where Paula Totten will present “Soil Health in the Urban Landscape.”
According to a press release, Totten “will show how the quality of your soil depends on how it is managed — your choices affect the amount of soil organic matter, the structure and depth, the soil’s water and nutrient holding capacity and more. Learn about the inherent properties of soil and how to assess it and the surrounding landscape so that it functions optimally and is not degraded for future use; take home ideas for improving your soil’s health and your gardening experience.”
According to the release, Totten studied geology at Radford University and soil science at North Carolina State University. “She has worked in the environmental field for over 15 years, educating landowners to improve soil quality and reduce soil erosion.”
She will present Thursday at noon at the Prince Edward County Virginia Cooperative Extension Office, 100 Dominion Dr., Farmville.
