CUMBERLAND — The Cumberland County School Board has approved the 2017-18 school year calendar.

The calendar — agreed to March 13 — includes Aug. 9 as the first day of school and May 23, 2018 as the last day for students.

Other highlights include the first semester ending Dec. 20, the second semester beginning on Jan. 3, 2018 and 180 instructional days for students.

In addition, there will be 20 teacher in-service or work days for staff development to improve teacher delivery and student learning, classroom preparation and open house/registration.

Winter break will take place Dec. 21-30. Graduation will take place May 18, 2018.

School began this year Aug. 8 and will end on May 18. Winter break was observed Dec. 21-30, and graduation is set to take place May 19 — a day after the last day of school.
