The Prince Edward County High School varsity boys indoor track and field team placed a narrow second at the Virginia High School League Group 1A/2A indoor track and field state championships held Feb. 22-23 at Roanoke College in Salem. The Eagles were just five points behind state champion Auburn High School. The young varsity Lady Eagles placed ninth out of 26 point-scoring teams. Eagles senior Rajai Walton earned three individual state titles, senior Bryan Moses earned one and both boys were part of the 4×200-meter relay team that also won. Senior Brandon Scott and junior Zion Lewis rounded out the relay squad. Reflecting on his state titles, Walton said, “After all the long hours of hard work that I put in, it finally paid off. To be a part of the relay was bonus considering not everybody gets a relay leg.” The boys team’s Group 2A state runner-up trophy sits at his feet in the photo above.
