Frances Shepard Redd passed away March 14, 2017.  Frances was born in 1931 to William Russell Shepard and Helen Rebecca Shepard, of Farmville.

Beloved Frances is survived by her daughter, Kathy Redd Brodie, of Farmville; grandson, Brett Joseph Brodie, of Wilmington, North Carolina; granddaughter, Devon Scott Brodie, of Raleigh, North Carolina; sister, Lily Ailsworth, of Richmond.

Frances is predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Robert T. Redd, and her son, Robert T. Redd Jr.

Frances graduated from Farmville High School in 1949. After raising her children, she went back to Longwood College where she graduated summa cum laude with a B.S. in elementary education. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was a contributor to both the Nancy Anderson Haga Scholarship and the LCVA.

Frances taught for 20 years at Buckingham Primary School until her retirement in 1997. She cherished her time with “her children” and considered it her privilege and her mission to make sure that every child gained a love of reading. So often, her former students stopped her in stores and on the street to thank her for giving them such an excellent educational foundation.

Frances was a woman of many talents. She especially enjoyed family gatherings and gardening. She was a bluebird and purple martin landlord for many years.

Frances will be deeply missed.

In lieu of flowers, please honor her with contributions to the Robert T. Redd Fund for Professional Development and Scholarship Assistance (P.O. Drawer 328, Farmville, VA), to the Southside SPCA (P.O. Box 66, Meherrin, VA  23954) or to the charity of your choice.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 18, at noon in the chapel of Puckett Funeral Home, with interment to follow in Westview Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 10 a.m.-noon at Puckett Funeral Home.
