On Saturday, March 11, Central Virginia Arts (CVA) will sponsor a workshop titled “Ekphrasic Poetry in the Gallery and/or Museum Setting” with Carolyn Kreiter-Foronda, a Virginia Poet Laureate Emerita.
“Participants will write poetry, inspired by paintings, photography and other items located in the Atkinson Museum at Hampden-Sydney College where the workshop takes place,” CVA officials said in a press release. “Kreiter-Foronda will use reproductions from Virginia Museum of Fine Arts’ collection to introduce ekphrastic poetry — a traditional approach to writing about art — and then select artwork from the statewide partner’s collection to inspire poems.”
Kreiter-Foronda is a poet, painter and educator and holds two master’s degrees and a Ph.D. from George Mason University, where she received the first doctorate presented by the school.
To sign up for the workshop, call Deborah McClintock at (434) 223-8322. The cost for the workshop is $15 for CVA members and students and $25 for others.
