The Serendipity Club met Feb. 9 at the Farmville Presbyterian Church. They welcomed the speaker, Farmville Police Chief Andy Ellington, who was appointed to his position on Oct. 27 by the Farmville Town Council.
Ellington presented his goals, which included continuing to pursue advanced technologies and improving quality of training. He said he also wanted to work on diversity within the department, not only by race and sex, but to attract officers who are fluent in speaking multiple languages.
He led the club members in a discussion of specific goals, including increasing citizen safety and perception of safety, how the department can be the premier law enforcement agency of the region and how to establish and maintain accredited status through the Virginia Law Enforcement Professional Standards Commission.
