Appomattox Court House National Historical Park is seeking volunteers to assist in trail maintenance on the park’s History/Nature Trail on Saturday, Feb. 4.
According to a press release, this project involves building a 30-foot long, 4-foot wide terraced walkway along the inside curve of the North Carolina Monument-Sears Lane Loop near Plain Run.
“The terraced walkway would allow hikers to avoid a section of trail that is prone to seasonally flooding,” park officials said in the release.
Contact Ashton Farrell, AmeriCorps VISTA for Appomattox Court House National Historical Park, by noon Friday, Feb. 3 if you are interested in this service project.
Volunteers will meet park staff at the North Carolina Monument parking lot along Route 24 at 9 a.m. The project will conclude at noon.
Volunteers are encouraged to bring proper shoes for use on a trail. There will be moderate trail walking to get to the site. Distances should not be more than a mile. Please bring your own snacks. Work equipment including safety gloves and water will be provided. For more information contact Ashton Farrell at (434) 352-8987 ext. 233 or email Ashtonpatrick@hotmail.com.
