Katherine “Katie” Putney Wright, 36, of Roanoke, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 1, 2017 after a yearlong battle with cancer. She epitomized the word ‘courageous’ for all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her son, Charlie Wright; husband, Daniel Wright Jr. of Roanoke; sister and brother-in-law, Libbie and Kristian Mayr; niece, Grace of Winston-Salem; sister, Carol Putney of Radford; parents, William and Linda Putney of Radford; in-laws, Daniel and Sandra Wright of Roanoke; sister-in-law and nephew, Tammy and Kyle Peters of Roanoke; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. She was preceded in death by her son, Jack.
Born in Richmond, Katie grew up in Denver, Colorado, and moved back to Virginia when she was a teenager. Katie beat cancer a first time in her late teens, and earned her bachelor’s degree at Virginia Tech, where she met her husband, Danny. Katie pursued a career in Therapeutic Foster Care in Roanoke, and worked until being re-diagnosed with cancer in December of 2015.
Katie enjoyed expressing her artistic abilities through creative projects both at home and on the job. She was a wonderful wife and mother, and her love for laughter, life and taking care of others was an example to all who knew her.
A memorial service celebrating Katie’s brave life was held Thursday, January 5 at Hollins Road Baptist Church, Roanoke, with the Rev. Mark Washington officiating. Interment was private.
Oakey’s North Chapel, Roanoke, served the family. On-line condolences may be sent to www.oakeys.com.
