Department of Virginia Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Commander Tom Gimble recently visited Farmville VFW Post 7059 when he met with the commanders of the 12 Southside Virginia posts.
Gimble lauded the service and work performed by the various posts in their home communities. He noted much of their work does not get public recognition because it is performed quietly and without fanfare in support of Americanism, community service, safety, youth and hospital activities for veterans, veterans families and others in need.
Gimble said much of what is done, however, never gets recorded, so the good works they and other posts perform is often underreported. He urged a special outreach to younger veterans returned from Global War on Terror duties, saying they sometimes need assistance with the transition back to the civilian workforce or in navigating the Veterans Affairs claims process.
