- JORDAN MILES | HERALD A three-alarm blaze that destroyed a home at 1173 Chellowe Road on Sunday morning continued to smolder into the early afternoon. About five people were displaced as a result of the fire.
A fire destroyed a singlewide mobile home Sunday morning at 1173 Chellowe Road in Buckingham, displacing about five people. According to Dillwyn Volunteer Fire Department Chief Jason Wharam, the fire was reported at about 8:15 a.m.
“When we got there it was fully involved,” Wharam said.
No one was injured in the fire, which destroyed the home, which had an addition on it, the chief said.
Volunteers from Dillwyn, Toga and Cumberland fire departments responded.
While the cause of the fire remains under investigation, Wharam said the incident is not suspicious in nature.
Volunteer firefighters were on scene for about two hours, he said.
The fire continued to smolder amid the rubble early Sunday afternoon.
