Redbud Garden Club met Oct. 25 at the Central Virginia Regional Library in Farmville. Jo Smith and April McBride were hostesses. Guests were Iris Maagdelijn and Chelsea Giles.

Smith read a selection from “The Upper Room” and led the group in prayer. Speaker Al Lofkowski showed members items that had been made from plant fibers, many from other countries around the world. Each member got to create their own cord using yucca plant material. It certainly gave one an appreciation for all the hand work that was done prior to machines.

Blue ribbons for “Fill Your Pantry” (a design featuring fruit and/or vegetables) were awarded to Janet Higgins, Ann Ligon, Patsy Miessler and Kate Shorter. Red ribbons went to Liz Dunn, Dottie Fahrner, Mary Hazlegrove, Geraldine Sanderson, Sarah Schember, Jean Taylor and Joyce Thompson.

“Mums the Word” (a triangle arrangement using mums) earned blue ribbons for Rebecca Giles, Janet Higgins, Ann Ligon and Geraldine Sanderson. Specimen ribbons were awarded as follows: Rebecca Giles, 7 blue; Janet Higgins, 2 blue, 4 red; Geraldine Sanderson 1 blue.
