Athletes and their families came to Farmville from as far away as North Carolina recently to participate in the area’s first-ever Festivus Games.

Hosted at Cross First 1st Due (also known as The Box) hosted the regional competition for beginner and intermediate athletes. Athletes turned out from a 90-mile area around Prince Edward County to compete in several events at various levels of difficulty for both men and women.

The competition was actually nationwide, so a certified competition coordinator officiated to maintain integrity and fairness during the execution of routines and feats. Master athletes were also on hand for exhibitions and advanced coaching, as well as camaraderie.

Supporters and families enjoyed a “tent city” area for break times and general socializing while enjoying Walker’s tailgate catering. Walker, a local flooring merchant and caterer, and Pairet’s Sportswear were included in the planning to benefit from this business opportunity. Each participant received a locally screen-printed event T-shirt. Attendance was estimated at more than 125 and local Box regulars served as gracious hosts to their visitors.
