Wilbanks win Country Showdown

Farmville’s own Amaris and Shiloh Wilbanks won the 35th Annual Krystal Klear Pools and Spas Country Showdown at the Five County Fair on Sept. 30 presented by Jenkins Blue & Gray and Bug Busters Pest Control. The showdown was hosted by WVHL “Kickin’ Country” 92.9 FM.
Ryan Jewel, of Front Royal, took second place, while Corina Aucker, from Manchester, Pa. came in third.
The Wilbanks’ win marks the completion of the first step in a prestigious national contest.
Amaris and Shiloh’s combination of musical talent, stage presence, song writing skills and charisma caught the attention of judges including Farmville musicians Tray and Jo Ann Eppes and Gary Hickman of Buffalo Creek Guitar in Farmville.
The brother/sister act will advance to the regional final of the Country Showdown vying for $1,000, and the opportunity to perform at one of five semi-final competitions later this year. Semi-final winners receive an all-expense paid trip to the National Final, exuding talent and energy in their performances and winning the $100,000 grand prize package and the national title.
The Country Showdown also featured Craig Dodson, of Dillwyn; Zachary Jamerson, of Buckingham; Rick Mann, of Charlotte Court House; Gracie Metheny, of Elkins, W. Va.; John Pauley, of Dillwyn; Ashley Powell, of Blackstone; Danita Faye Robinson, of Millville, Del.; Hannah Rose, of Blackstone; and Ward Warren, of Fredericksburg, in this year’s competition.
Now in its 35th year, the Country Showdown finds the most promising country music talent in America, giving these performers a chance to launch a professional career. Nearly $200,000 in cash and prizes is awarded to the thousands of aspiring artists who compete each year. Nationwide, 2 million fans will experience the Country Showdown via hundreds of live shows and nationally syndicated television and radio broadcasts.
