Mary Dennis Companion

Mary Dennis Companion, 82 of Farmville, passed away on October 9, 2016. She was born in Amelia to the late James C. and Addie Brown Dennis on March 19, 1934.

She was a member of Cumberland Presbyte- rian Church and worked at Craddock Terry Shoe Corporation for over 35 years. She was married to the late Joseph J. Com- panion and raised four children, she was known as the “neighborhood Mom” and found good

in everyone. She always had only good things to say about people and

taught her family “If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything at all”.

She loved babysitting her grandchildren, working puzzles and tending to her garden. She had a great love for animals and the birds didn’t fly south for the winter because she fed them here. Everyone who knew her said she had the “Best smile in the world” and her children said “Mom lived at the foot of the Cross”. She was a loving friend and neighbor and will be missed by many.

Ms. Companion is survived by her children, Debo- rah C. Baker (Larry) of Farmville, Donald C. Compan- ion of Cumberland, and Joseph J. Companion Jr. (Sue Morris) of Pamplin; two brothers, Franklin Dennis and Joseph Dennis (Barbara); a sister, Virley D. An- drews (Kenneth); 10 grandchildren, Ronald “Puggy” Mahan, Jeremy Mahan (Kelly), Bradley Companion (Laurel), April C. Shelton (Stacey), Amanda Com- panion, Stacy Ann Companion, Megan Companion, Ricky Lee Companion Jr. Robert Baker (Natalie) and Jennifer B. Asal (Stephen); 17 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a loving friend and neighbor, June Bailey, many special nieces, nephews, Joan Roberson, Lisa Moses and Susan Companion. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a son, Ricky Lee Companion Sr., a brother, Leroy Dennis and a sister, Addie D. Brown.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Oc- tober 12 at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Puckett Funeral Home with interment to follow in the Westview Cemetery.

Family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 11 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at Puckett Funeral Home.
