- MIKE KROPF | LONGWOOD UNIVERSITY Longwood University senior third/second baseman Brandon Harvell, left, and junior shortstop Michael Osinski model some of the costumes the team will be wearing at Friday’s Spooky Slugfest at Buddy Bolding Stadium.
The Longwood University baseball team will be donning some unusual uniforms for an intrasquad game Friday at 5 p.m. that is open to the public at Buddy Bolding Stadium and will be followed by an on-field trick-or-treat around the bases for children.
The Lancers, which will split into two teams, the Ghouls and the Goblins, will be wearing creative Halloween costumes during the coach-pitch game which should last approximately an hour and 15 minutes.
Longwood Head Baseball Coach Ryan Mau said the first-time event is designed to involve the community in the off-season and give his players a chance to let loose and have fun on the field in a way they do not ordinarily have the opportunity to do.
Fans are encouraged to come in their own Halloween costumes and to bring baseballs, trick-or-treating buckets and other items for players to autograph following the game.
