Cumberland High School senior No. 1 golfer Chase Grubbs overcame a 42 on the front nine to shoot an even-par 36 on the back nine Monday, giving him a 78 on the day, which earned him the Region 1A East Championship at London Downs Golf Club in Forest. Grubbs, who has also been named the regional Player of the Year, will now play in the Virginia High School League Group 1A State Tournament at Heritage Oaks Golf Course in Harrisonburg on Oct. 10-11.
