Algie Virginia ‘Newton’ Jamerson

Algie Virginia ‘Newton’ Jamerson, 81, of Scottsville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at her residence surrounded by her family. She was born on January 6, 1935, a daughter of the late Asa Thomas Newton and Gladys (Duncan) Newton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, George Jamerson, a son, Michael Thomas Jamerson, a sister, Dora Newton, and a brother, Henry Newton.

Virginia was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church where she was active in service through Sunday school and the United Methodist Women.  She enjoyed spending time with her family.

Survivors include five children, Roger Jamerson and wife, Judy, Tony Jamerson and wife, Diane, all of Scottsville, Patricia Garland of Wake Village, Texas, Linda Taylor of Pompano Beach, Florida, and Chris Jamerson of Scottsville; two brothers, Robert Newton and wife, Thelma of Quinton, and Samuel Newton and wife, Marie of Scottsville; ten grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a number of other extended family members and friends.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, October 7 at Centenary United Methodist Church by Pastors Paul Larrimore, James Jetton, and Donald Collins.  Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 7:30 p.m. Thursday evening, October 6, 2016 at Thacker Brothers Scottsville Funeral Home.
