From a security and safety standpoint, all is quiet on the eve of the U.S. Vice Presidential Debate at Longwood University.
Security increased significantly on Saturday with the entrance of law enforcement from across the state, including Virginia State Police and contracted security.
“Longwood University Police, Farmville Police, Prince Edward County Sheriff’s Office, State Police and our many local, regional, state and federal public safety resources are on post in and around the campus as preparations continue for the debate event,” said Corinne Geller, Virginia State Police spokeswoman. “As of noon Monday, there have been no arrests or charges placed in connection with the event. Safety and security are a core law enforcement focus as we move towards the debate.”
Geller said traffic control is also “of importance as we aim to minimize the impact of the debate on those traveling through the town and region.”
