Maryland State Police (MSP) arrested a Buckingham County woman late last week after she was accused of kidnapping her two children. According to an MSP press release, troopers stopped the suspect, identified as Carshena Chieffo, 35, on Interstate 95 in Cecil County.
“She was charged with being a fugitive from justice and is currently awaiting an extradition hearing,” MSP officials said in the release. “At about 1 a.m. (Thursday), the JFK Highway Barrack duty officer received a call from Baltimore County dispatch in reference to a lookout for a blue Nissan pick-up truck with Virginia registration. Baltimore County Police, who were in contact with authorities in Virginia, advised that Chieffo had kidnapped her two children, ages 11 and 16, and was traveling with them northbound on I-95 in the area of the Rt. 22 exit. Chieffo did not have legal custody of her children and had taken them without permission.”
Troopers were able to locate and stop the vehicle in the area of northbound I-95 near the 107 mile marker in Cecil County.
“Chieffo was taken into custody without incident and charged as a fugitive,” officials said. “The two children were in the vehicle and were unharmed.”
Troopers are continuing to assist Virginia authorities with their investigation.
