The Hampden-Sydney College (H-SC) baseball team recently completed a community service project at the Creative Learning Center, a preschool in Farmville. The Tigers worked together to paint numerous rooms at the school, including several classrooms.
“The whole H-SC baseball team came out in full force and worked tirelessly so kids in this community have a freshly-painted learning center to attend,” said Samantha Martin, the director of the Creative Learning Center. “They are a wonderful group of young men, and we can’t thank Jeff Kinne and the H-SC baseball team enough.”
Kinne, head coach of the Tigers, said he was extremely proud of his squad for helping a good cause in the Farmville community.
“This shows the character of our guys and especially our senior leadership,” he said. “Also, thanks to Samantha Martin for allowing us to be a small part of her great learning center.”
Helping motivate the Hampden-Sydney players to participate was a recognition of what they and the school’s baseball program receive from people in the area on a regular basis.
“It was great to work together as a team in order to help Creative Learning Center and give back to a community that has done so much to support the Tigers,” said senior outfielder Dustin Wiles.
The Tigers gave the community plenty to be excited about in 2016, producing a program-record 28 wins. They earned the No. 4 seed in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference tournament, finishing as runners-up after nearly upsetting second-seeded Randolph-Macon College for the title.
