Longwood sets up Stubbs Mall for performances

Longwood University’s Stubbs Mall being set up for debate-related events. Employees of the university worked through Friday’s rain to ensure everything would be ready for Sunday’s VP Jubilee Kick-Off Night, which will be held from 6:30-10:20 p.m. During the Kick-Off, several lucky students will be selected to receive a ticket to the Vice President Debate in Willett Hall.
After the selection, MKTO will perform to start the VP Jubilee debate festival.
On Monday, visitors are welcomed to Stubbs Mall to “enjoy a steady stream of assorted debate-related booths, activities and musical acts,” according to the university’s website.
At 1 p.m. on Monday, there will be a musical performance by Javier Colon, winner of “The Voice,” also on Stubbs Mall. Longwood will host a “Minute to Win It” event at 2:30 p.m. and then hold “Mini-Debates” at 3 p.m., followed by a Taste of Virginia Media Picnic at 4:30 p.m.
At 8 p.m. Stubbs Mall will see a performance from the Second City-Improv All Stars comedy troupe perform. The group “launched the careers of Bill Murray, Chris Farley, Stephen Colbert, Steve Carell, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler and many more,” the university website stated.
On Tuesday — Debate Day — the public is invited to Stubbs Mall for another VP Jubilee. At 1 p.m. Tuesday, a Zac Brown cover band called “20 Ride” will perform, followed by a jazz combo performance at 3 p.m. Later that day, Longwood will hold a trivia contest, patriotic music and media wall before the campus debate Watch Party beginning at 9 p.m. on the Mall.
A post-debate breakfast with music will also be held on Stubbs Mall at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday.
