The National Rifle Association’s (NRA) Board of Directors recently named Trevor Goin, of Prospect, the national winner of the 2016 Brownwells/NRA Outstanding Achievement Youth Award. Goin won the award for being a shooting sports participant who takes an active part in his community and for his “individual contribution, educational pursuits and accomplishments” to shooting sports, according to an NRA press release.
Goin is an active member of the Appomattox 4-H Shooting Education Club for eight years. During this time, he has competed in numerous local, district, state and national matches and competitions, such as rifle, pistol and — his favorite — shotgun. He has also received his 4-H Shotgun Instructor certification and enjoys working with other youth, teaching safety first, by assisting with shooting education at the annual 4-H Shooting Camp. Goin recently finished the Youth Hunter Education Challenge.
Goin has earned the rating of distinguished expert in both the rifle and shotgun disciplines through the Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification Program.
In addition to being named the Outstanding Achievement Youth winner, the NRA selected Goin to be organization’s representative to the National Youth Shooting Sports Ambassador Program for 2017. He is the son of DeWitt and Stacey Goin, of Prospect; and the grandson of Robert (Bob) and Paigie Allnutt of Halifax County, Robert (Bob) Rogers and Janet Goin-Rogers of Richmond, and Hunter and Elsa Goin of Costa Rica.
