Three fire companies responded to a reported stove fire on Friday evening. According to Walter Whitt, second assistant chief of the Farmville Volunteer Fire Department, the incident was reported at about 5:55 p.m. in the South West Landings building along Main Street. “The resident put a plastic cutting board underneath a pizza and put it inside the oven and, of course, the plastic melted, smoked up the oven and caught briefly on fire inside,” Whitt said. Once crews arrived on scene, the fire was out, he said. No damage to the apartment was reported, Whitt said. Fire crews from Farmville, Rice and Hampden-Sydney volunteer fire departments responded.
