Buckingham County High School’s varsity football team came into Friday’s road game against Central Lunenburg High School looking to build on its first win of the season from the week prior, but that did not happen.

After being the first to score, the Knights fell behind and lost 41-12.

“We weren’t very physical, and we didn’t execute the fundamentals, and it speaks for itself with the score,” Buckingham Head Coach Joshua Wallace said. “Inconsistency has been killing us.”

Buckingham produced only 126 yards of total offense Friday.

“We had plenty of opportunities — plenty,” Wallace said. “We just weren’t executing.”

Knights junior Daniel Brickhill scored his team’s touchdowns — the first on a 27-yard scramble and the second on a 1/2-yard sneak. He led the way with 58 yards on eight carries but struggled in the passing game, going 3-for-13 for 40 yards and an interception.

Sophomore Tyrese Ayers was 0-for-3 passing with two interceptions.

On defense, sophomore Quantarious Stanton led the Knights with 10 total tackles.

Seven Knights players did not start Friday due to disciplinary reasons.
