A three-alarm fire destroyed a barn at 11999 Francisco Road near Sheppards in southern Buckingham on Wednesday morning. According to Toga Volunteer Fire Department Chief Brian Bates, the fire was reported at 2:30 a.m., summoning volunteer firefighters from Toga, Dillwyn and Farmville. “The barn contained peanut shells hay,” Bates said. Tommy Manis owned the structure, he said. The fire was considered a total loss, according to Bates. No one was injured and there’s no word on the cause of the blaze. “It was really great the way Toga, Dillwyn and Farmville worked together,” Bates said.
