Happy birthday wishes are sent out this week to the following people: Ciera Ownby of Dillwyn on Sunday, Reese Shifflet of Dillwyn and Virginia Boyles of Cumberland on Tuesday and Eloise Senger of Crewe on Wednesday.
A cookout was held at the home of Josh & Lindsay Brown of Dillwyn on Monday in honor of Lindsay’s father, Gene Absher’s 60th birthday. There were 51 in attendance and everyone enjoyed a great time of fellowship, fun and food.
On Sept. 17, Barry and Linda Miles of Cumberland visited in the home of James and Virginia Boyles also of Cumberland. A nice visit was had by all.
Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, 5780 Mt. Moriah Road, Powhatan, will host a 3D archery shoot Sunday at 3 p.m. at the church. The competition, for all ages, is for compound or traditional bows; no crossbows or range finders, please. Please bring your own equipment. Children under the age of 13 must be with an adult. There will be prizes awarded to top shooters. Hotdogs, chips and soda will be served. Admission is free.
Here are some good tips on the do’s and don’t of human food for dogs: 1. Almonds are nontoxic, however, they can tear the windpipe and esophagus. 2. Apples are good for dogs. They contain vitamin A and C as well as fiber. Apples are great for senior dogs. But remember to remove all seeds and core before feeding them to your dog.
