Church volunteers in Wise County

Volunteers from Johns Memorial Episcopal Church in Farmville traveled to Wise County to participate in the Remote Area Medical (RAM) mission held July 22-24 at the Wise County Fairgrounds. The organization provides free medical, dental, vision and preventative care to underserved, isolated and impoverished communities. During the weekend, RAM registered 2,111 patients and provided $1.213 million in services. As part of a group of 140 volunteers, Johns Memorial Episcopal Church and other churches from all over the state collected 20 tons of clothes and 900 pairs of shoes, filling a 53-foot tractor trailer. In addition to clothing, socks, underwear and shoes, Johns Memorial raised $2,000 for the Health Wagon organization.
