Charles Preston Hackett

Charles Preston Hackett, 61, of Dillwyn, went to be with his Lord on Sunday, July 24, 2016. He died in the comfort of his home with his loving wife, Linda Tyler Hackett, by his side. Charles, born on January 7, 1955, was the youngest son of the late Hampton and Dorothy Bryant Hackett.

He was the father of two sons, Joshua Preston Hackett and his fiancée, Shauna Ripley and Clinton Shane Hackett and his wife, Shelby. He also leaves behind a sister, Carolyn Hackett Reaves; four brothers, Danny (Glenda), Bruce, Buddy (Doris) and Rickey (Brenda) and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Elizabeth Harris Hackett, brother-in-law, Bobby Reaves, great-nephew, Bryce Lewis and beloved dog, Jake.

Charles was owner and operator of Log Hog Logging. As a volunteer firefighter for the Toga Fire Department, he received honors as Toga Firefighter of the Year. He worked tirelessly planning the annual Toga Community Benefit, which provided financial support for many in need. He spent many years serving his community as a youth league baseball coach. Charles’ heart was that of a humble and kind servant.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 28 at 2 p.m. at the Dunkum Funeral Home with interment in the Buckingham Community Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home and other times at the residence.
