The Woodland recently recognized 25 staff members, including administrators, nurses, social workers and therapists, who completed training to earn Dementia Care Specialist Certification.
These staff members completed the Dementia Capable Care Foundation Course, a specialized training developed by the Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI).
The training uses a common language for understanding the stages of dementia and a structure for implementing person centered approaches to care. The Woodland also has a partnership and support with Dementia Care Trainers and Specialists at CPI, as well as a connection with community groups such as the Alzheimer’s Association and hosts the monthly Alzheimer’s and Dementia Caregiver Support Group at Brookview Lodge.
Specialized training of staff in dementia care has been shown to enhance the quality of life for residents and their families and improve job satisfaction in long term care and assisted living facilities.
