A Rice man was sentenced Wednesday to 6½ years behind bars after pleading guilty in connection with a Farmville shooting last June.
Junious Mottley, 33, was sentenced to 25 years in prison, with 18½ years suspended, according to Prince Edward County Commonwealth’s Attorney Megan Clark.
Mottley appeared Wednesday morning in Prince Edward Circuit Court and entered separate guilty pleas to charges of failing to re-register with the Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry, malicious wounding, and possessing a firearm after being convicted of a violent felony, according to Clark.
His failure to re-register with the Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry was a second offense.
He was sentenced to 10 years, with 9½ years suspended, on the failure to re-register charge.
For malicious wounding, he received a sentence of 10 years, with nine years suspended.
According to Clark, he was sentenced to five years on the firearm charge. This sentence is mandatory, thus no time was suspended, she said.
“The defendant was placed under various terms and conditions of the court,” Clark said.
The charges stemmed from an altercation at a Farmville residence on June 10, 2015, at 8:32 p.m. Mottley shot an individual in the arm during an argument.
“There are indications that prior to the fight, the individuals had been involved in an ongoing disagreement, and this was not a random act,” police said at the time.
