Middle school hands out awards

Fuqua Middle School recently held an awards assembly recognizing students for their outstanding achievements.
During the assembly, three students received scholarships bearing the highest honor.
Mary Katherine Kendall received the $500 J. Boyd Bagby Scholarship for exemplifying the qualities of character, model citizenship and outstanding academic performance. Roman Davis and Audra Murphy each received a $1,000 Anna McGovern Scholarship for having the highest academic records.
Other awards and recognitions included the Prince Edward Ruritan Citizenship and Patriotism Awards, which went to Hadley Puckett and Curstan Tharpe, the Social Studies Award to Roman Davis, the President’s Awards for Academic Excellence to Hannah Cook, Roman Davis, Kate Elam, Emily Erickson, Ashley Handy, Mary Katherine Kendall, Kaitlyn Morgan, Audra Murphy, Peyton Newcomb, Drew Osborn and Kaley Sublett, Farmville Woman’s Club Writing recognitions to Mallory Brown for poetry, sixth grade; Hunter Melton for short story, sixth grade; Maria Pack for poetry, seventh grade; and Mary Katherine Kendall for short story, eighth grade.
LCVA Art Awards went to Marya Dunning, Hunter Gibson, Catherine Rutherford and Justin Stimpson, the Denise Penick Art Award went to Peyton Newcomb, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7059 Patriots Pen winners included Audra Murphy and Savannah Stone, the Science Fair winners included Audra Murphy, Mary Katherine Kendall and Hannah Cook, Spelling Bee participants included (sixth grade) Hannah Myers and Hadley Puckett, (seventh grade) Marya Dunning and Ryan McKay, (eighth grade) Roman Davis and Kaley Sublett.
Geography Bee participants included Chandler Wright, George Magnotti, James Minix, Zach Eason, Lucas Gee, Kate Elam and Audra Murphy.
