During the second annual Heart of Virginia Free Clinic’s Fundraising Gala held Saturday night in Farmville, Hampden-Sydney College economics professor Dr. Saranna Thornton and her philanthropy in theory and practice students received the 2016 Hero Community Partner Award. The clinic’s executive director, Pat Payne, second from left, said that the class, under the leadership of Thornton, has raised over $15,000 for the clinic through class projects.
