The third-seeded Fuqua School varsity softball team rallied from an early three-run deficit on Thursday, but ultimately fell 4-3 to second-seeded Kenston Forest in the Virginia Independent Schools Athletic Association Division III state semifinals at the Dinwiddie Sports Complex.
Mary Grace Amos gave the Lady Falcons a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning with a home run to centerfield.
The Lady Kavaliers responded with all four of their runs in the bottom of the first.
Hannah Gray Schmidt tripled in the fourth to bring home Virginia Haney, and then Haney doubled in the sixth to score her sister, Katie Haney.
Fuqua could not make anything happen in the seventh, though, and ended its season with an 8-8 record.
